The APPUG is hosting a parliamentary reception to discuss the role of universities in the Net Zero agenda. The reception will be held on Wednesday 12 July, 15:30 – 17:00, in the House of Lords Attlee and Reid Room.
Universities are critical to tackling the climate emergency. The diversity and strategic position of universities make them well placed to forge the path to Net Zero. They have enormous potential to accelerate the change needed through research and development of green technologies, equipping the future workforce with knowledge and skills, and leading transformative impact in their local communities.
This reception, sponsored by Rt Hon Baroness Garden of Frognal, will examine the challenges and opportunities for universities in the road to Net Zero. There will be short remarks from:
- Rt Hon Chris Skidmore MP, Co-Chair of the APPUG and author of the Independent Review of Net Zero.
- Professor Judith Petts CBE, Vice-Chancellor of Plymouth University and Chair of the Universities UK Climate Task and Finish Group.
- Charlotte Bonner, Chief Executive of the Alliance for Sustainability Leadership in Education.
- Professor Graham Miller, Professor of Sustainability in Business at the University of Surrey.
There will be opportunity to discuss the remarks and network over afternoon tea with members of the APPUG and sector stakeholders.
A briefing document with security instructions, an agenda, and speaker profiles will be circulated to attendees ahead of the event.
A screen will showcase the innovative work of APPUG members in the Net Zero agenda throughout the reception. We invite members to submit up to 2 slides outlining a case study or best practice relating to your institution’s journey towards Net Zero. Please send this to appug@universitiesuk.ac.uk by Friday 30 June.
