Demonstrating the value of humanities and the creative arts

The upcoming discussion, chaired by Daniel Zeichner MP, will bring together a panel of experts to discuss the often-overlooked social, cultural, and economic value of the humanities and creative arts. It will raise the current rhetoric and challenging environment for these disciplines to operate in, exploring ways that universities can seize on new opportunities to create strong conditions for the humanities and creative arts to flourish.

Rt Hon James Purnell (Vice Chancellor of University of the Arts London and former Secretary of State for Culture, Media, and Sport) and Professor Julia Black (President of the British Academy) are confirmed to speak. There will be a Q&A session following the speaker presentations to allow members of the group to discuss the presentations and ask further questions.

Attendees are advised to arrive at the Committee Room from 5.00pm, with speeches beginning promptly at 5.15pm.

The panel discussion will be followed by a dinner hosted in House of Commons Dining Room B from 6.45pm. This will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

To RSVP, please email APPUG@universitiesuk.ac.uk by Friday 26 May at the latest and note any dietary requirements if you would like to attend the dinner.
